that you are doing a wonderful thing by cleaning out that park. I wish everyone would leave Earth a little better when they depart it.

    •  i so agree... i find that when i walk on the beach (3+ / 0-)

or in the parks, i always leave with more than when i entered.  i cannot stand to see litter or trash and will pick up everything in my path.  i need to start carrying bags with me instead of juggling the garbage people carelessly throw away!

      •  It gets to be a habit (0+ / 0-)

There are times I have to pass by garbage and NOT stop to pick it up, and that's difficult for me, now. But I can't get it all, all the time - if I did, I'd never get anything else done. I've had to allow myself "time off" where I can pretend I don't see it... but it isn't easy.

People say stuff to me about how wonderful it is that I'm doing this, but I'll be flat-out honest with you:

        1. It's good exercise
        2. I get out in the fresh air, see wildlife of all kinds, spend time outdoors... it's rather Zen
        3. I have the satisfaction of knowing that the places I clean up look better and are better for all the creatures living there - even if it's just for that day
        4. It's my happy place. :)
        5. It gives me a chance to feel productive, and that is huge
        6. I get to stop and take pictures anytime I feel like it

So yeah... for me, it's not really work. Maybe I get hot, and sweaty, and sore.... but the benefits outweigh all of that.

smile and ask them to join with you and feel it for themselves!

it is so easy for some to "compliment" others so they don't have to do the same, isn't it.

i think i'm going to start carrying TWO bags (or more) to hand to those who "thank" me...

one person at a time - we'll train them!

the true satisfaction is in the job well done - for yourself, not for others.

          oh, and, thanks... 8^)

I've had a couple of people join me - and so far, they've all enjoyed it.

I don't think people realize sometimes how rewarding it can be, especially when they start seeing wildlife that they'd never noticed before.

Even just cleaning up by the side of the road, you see things you missed, and there's the feeling of "I did that!" when you look back and see how much better it is.

And since I started branching out to local parks, and trying to do even just a little bit every day - I've lost five pounds. Nice bonus. :)
