When civil union legislation was passed here years ago it failed to provide truly full and equal rights. It was some sort of ugly compromise that ensconced "one man, one woman" language into the definition of legal marriage and prevented same-sex couples from adopting children. One prominent activist stated a while ago, when the recent round of stateside marriage equality started up, that it'll probably be another 5 to 10 years before the Czech Republic finally catches up with the modern world and grants same-sex couples equal rights.
