    My mother had Parkinson's related dementia. She knew all her family and friends to the end but tended to lapse into dream worlds, stuck in her own mind and memories, hallucinating events that had happened many years before. In the end the disease killed her by robbing her of her physical strength and desire to eat, but she never forgot us. It is a terrifying and awful disease, but the lessons I gained from helping care for her until the end mirror many of the ones you list here.

    Thanks for sharing. Hopefully someday we will eliminate dementia once and for all.
