  •  Good points. I agree... (7+ / 0-)

    everything should be addressed.

It'll be interesting to read the conclusions reached by the president's commission. I can't remember how long it's supposed to last. But perhaps some of these issues will be addressed then.

...we may want to formulate a different metric for the number of Senators allowed per state. Perhaps one based on GDP or total tax revenues sent to the Federal Government -- with the top numbers getting as many as 5 Senators, drifting down to a minimum of 2.

I mean, if fairness is a factor, here.

This is the one place where the constitution makes an even higher bar for change than the regular amendment process. It would thus take two separate amendments: one to remove the higher bar, and another to actually change the apportionment.

Senate rules which prevent any reform of the filibuster are unconstitutional. Therefore, we can rein in the filibuster tomorrow with 51 votes.

          •  The Amendment process in the US is dead, Jim. (0+ / 0-)

I was merely working off my notes from reading the sane, modern, functioning constitutions, that most of the world enjoys in the 21st century. The reading of which is a hobby of mine.

The US Constitution has brought Americans the bought and paid for, non-representative government that operates completely independently of the will of the people -- and certainly not for their benefit.

I have come to believe that Americans probably deserve it. (Even though I wanted much better for them.)

As a resident in California, my vote has less weight than a vote in any other state.

How many votes did Max Baucus need to stay in the Senate? How about the Maine Senator Snow?

          Time is a long river.
