is that if the city is being run by someone who was ostensibly a pioneer in this field, surely parallel organizations can replicate what his company was able to do 25 years ago. I mean I took my SATs over 30 years ago using optical!

This has zero to do with technology and everything to do with machine politics. And NYC has an especially corrupt and incompetent machine at all levels.

my point was the fact that the mayor founded and owns 68% of a major international technology company is irrelevant to the decision.  That better technology exists is undeniable.  But, you were the one who brought the mayor's company into the discussion, and I was merely pointing out that he, as mayor, is irrelevant to the decision making process.

      •  Someone like Bloomberg isn't irrelevant (0+ / 0-)

to ANY discussion having to do with NYC governance. There are ways and there are ways. The formal process often bears little relation to the actual process in a city like NYC. It just wasn't a priority to him. No payoff in it. And, obviously, awarding a bid to overhaul the voting system to Bloomberg, Inc., was a non-starter. Even he doesn't have that kind of chutzpah.
