  •  WOW.So the 'sux" crowd was right? Come on now. (0+ / 0-)

I thought we only defended President Obama because we believed what he is/was doing was the right thing given the circumstances? This comment about "protecting" him just validates the idea of blind loyalty. Speak for yourself.

What Van is doing here is wrong. Putting Keystone all on President Obama is wrong. We are all to blame. By simply making this about Obama-again- we do a disservice to the issue because we delude ourselves into thinking we do not have to self-examine and be ready to change our approach.

The politicians may be bought, and the system corrupt, but it is our duty to fix these things.

    •  dunno what's up with you, but no, that's not at (8+ / 0-)

      all what I meant.

first of all, nothing I do is "blind," sebastian.  never has been, never will be.

Van's not calling the president the worst person ever, or a fake or any number of things "the sux crowd" does on a regular basis, for one.  that crowd calls the prez the worst things ever for being a PRESIDENT.  Van has defended the prez from exactly that, on many occasions.  even after the green czar fiasco.

secondly I don't see anything wrong with holding the prez to his VERY RECENT words.

if we called the ACA "Obamacare" why are we aghast at, for instance, the titling of this?

now.  what I meant in my "protective" comment is that folks were after the prez about shit BEFORE HE TOOK OFFICE.  those same people haven't stopped yet.  I DID feel protective about him against those things.  the same way, I'm sure, black baseball fans of all teams, even the Dodgers rivals felt protective of jackie robinson.

it's not his first term anymore.  he won't be running again.  he doesn't need my (or anyone's) protection in that vein.

but let me say this:  I've NEVER been ashamed of my identification with this president.  I've NEVER been ashamed of my emotional attachment to both the idea of him and the reality of him, doing his job competently.  I'm still not.

I only pointed out that the use of "protect him" invites people to believe that you weren't taking positions because you thought they were necessary right, but because they were necessary for some other reason which they like to believe is blind devotion.

We're on the same side on most issues so I felt comfortable making an inquiry. I didn't think you would mind.

As for taking him at his word. I think people do that only when they feel like it. So when he gets up there and makes a speech about ending the War on Terror, people all of a sudden don't believe his words. I reread his second inaugural speech and I didn't read a thing about Keystone, yet here people are talking as if he did.

In any instance, thanks for your response and don't be mad at me.
