Explain how you will eliminate a technology that dates back to the late 1800s, that can be made by anyone with sufficient skill and simple machine tools. This isn't nuclear weapons tech, it's simple firearms. How will you stop the black market that already exists, and keep it from expanding in response to restrictions in the legitimate market? How will you eliminate the supply when the demand exists and the will exists to meet it in order to make a profit?

    Let's see the plan.

When you can't come up with one, maybe then you'll face the facts: Prohibition has NEVER worked. Soviet fucking Russia couldn't eliminate their black markets. You won't be any more successful. I suggest you learn to deal with it, because that's reality. Insulting me won't change it.

Or not, it's your choice. Keep pissing in the wind, it's your face that gets wet.

Who cares nothing for the deaths of thousands of innocents.

Like I said, your idiotic philosophy argues that we shouldn't even bother to have laws against murder.

It's creepy how you fetishize your implements of death and the expense of society. Blecch. What a ghoul.

Can you answer the point or not? Insulting me (based on no information about me at all) accomplishes nothing and does not win the debate for you. In fact, it betrays a lack of foundation in your argument. If you have an answer, a plan that will actually work, let's hear it.

You claim, without basis, that I care nothing for innocent lives and that I adore firearms. Neither is the case. I am, however, realistic about their existence and their inability to be eliminated. The only reason I would desire a firearm is because others have them that are potentially hostile and having one might give me a small chance of survival rather than none at all if the unthinkable happens.

We AGREE that armed criminals are a problem. We agree that their weapons make them more dangerous than they would otherwise be and that's a bad thing. We agree that it would be ideal if their weapons were eliminated.

Where we disagree is with the feasibility of such a thing. I do not believe it is possible, and I've never heard anyone articulate a plan that has a snowball's chance in hell of success. Do you have one? If so, by all means let's hear it. Otherwise, you're just engaging in wishful thinking and like any true believer you're railing against anyone who dares to pierce the bubble of your mythology.

For the record: If I had a magic wand that would destroy all firearms, now and forever, I'd use it without hesitation. I don't. And I'm betting you don't either.

But by all means, insult me more. That'll solve the problem for sure!

it's absolutely realistic to start the process to reduce the amount of guns in our society. Guns ARE a significant part of the problem and to not acknowledge that is beyond stupid to the point of malignancy.

          •  What process? (0+ / 0-)

Again, what is the plan? Calling it a process means there is a plan of action that will, if followed, accomplish the desired result. Well, what is it? Don't give me fuzzy rhetoric based in cloud thinking, let's hear some specifics.

Being a member of the reality-based community, I reject vague pronouncements of broad goals without a plan or specifics. Otherwise, you're just acting like Romney saying he'll fix the economy without bothering to explain how he intended to accomplish it.

I'll once again repeat the quote: "If there's a new way, I'll be the first in line... but it'd better work this time!"
