    in propulsion technology or aerodynamics I don't see supersonic travel returning.

    To go supersonic you need a very skinny cross-section to minimize drag. That means there's only so many seats you can squeeze into it.

    Add the increased fuel burn for supersonic flight, even without afterburners, and the economics just don't work out.

    Nobody's even building supersonic business jets for the "money is no object crowd".

    If the pilot's good, see, I mean if he's reeeally sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low... oh you oughta see it sometime. It's a sight. A big plane like a '52... varrrooom! Its jet exhaust... frying chickens in the barnyard!
