  •  James Meeks has incredible influence over Chicago (3+ / 3-)

    Democratic representatives.

The Dmeocrats have a SUPER MAJORITY in the Illinois House.

JAmes Meeks and other African American preachers put the screws to the Chicago reps and that's what killed this vote.

    •  I'm not from Illinois, and I dont know the guy. (7+ / 0-)

But I do know that here in Iowa, there are white preachers who oppose gay couples marrying, even now, nearly 6 years after our first legal same sex marriage.

If this is not the case next door in Illinois, then I'm prepared to be educated.

They control the GOP and the GOP are in the SUPER MINORITY. The GOP will vote against ANY progressive legislation. Not a single GOP rep vote was needed

You have a SUPER MAJORITY of Democrats in the House.

What shut down the ability to have a vote was the House Black Caucus due to pressure from African American preachers in Chicago. Only a FEW of those votes were needed for a SIMPLE MAJORITY in order to pass the legislation.

Not a one budged because African American preachers guaranteed they would be primaried should they vote in favor.

So like I said, 100% the fault of African American preachers, all in Chicago.

As far as I'm now concerned, I oppose anything the House Black Caucus proposes, and will contact my (suburban) State Rep and Senator to voice my opposition to anything the House Black Caucus chooses to put forward.

...would not even call the vote so the votes, and who is responsible, could be put in the record.  So now it is all speculation and, 'oh it not MY fault, it is the other guy'.

          Cowards all.

We Glory in war, in the shedding of human blood. What fools we are.

    •  Again, prove it. (6+ / 1-)

You keep repeating this racist nonsense. Where's your evidence? Without any, I think you're just blaming it on the blax cuz you don't want to see the numerous white assholes opposed to gay marriage.

      •  I received a James Meeks robo call at my home (1+ / 0-)

Urging me to contact my representative (who is a Democrat in a Suburban district) to oppose marriage equality.

Unlike the vast majority of Kossacks accusing me of racism (which, if you knew me and my family would make you laugh your ass off), I actually LIVE in Illinois.

The chairman’s support comes at a time of strong support for marriage equality in Illinois, especially within the black community. A December 2012 Public Policy Poll showed that in Illinois, 60% of African Americans surveyed supported same-sex marriage. President Barack Obama has urged the Illinois General Assembly to pass the legislastion. In addition, many prominent African-Americans individuals and organizations inIllinois have joined the cause and declared their support for extending thefreedom to marry to all couples, including:

    •  I'm HR'ing any "blame the blacks" (6+ / 1-)

      stuff on here.

      Period.

There are huge black churches supporting marriage equality - in Chicago.

Are there bigoted black folks ?  Sure.  But there are far more bigoted white folks with big bucks.

So stop with the divide and conquer stuff.  That's what NOM does.

    •  Here We Go Again (5+ / 1-)

I have already spent two donuts on this collective diss--without any fucking PROOF--of "African American preachers" allegedly "killing" "pressuring" or what have you Democrats in the Illinois statehouse.

It's racist bullshit.  Provide an actual quote from an actual legislator or shut up.

HRd, as I have promised repeatedly I would do ever since the Proposition 8 debacle over this racist scapegoating of Black people (instead of beating up on the individuals provably responsible) for LGBT advancement not coming as fast as folks might otherwise like.  As I have said repeatedly, I've had enough and this is going to stop if I have to spend every HR I have here at Daily Kos for the rest of my days here.
