  •  Well, Timaeus, you really raise a good point (2+ / 0-)

that is really at the heart of why I wrote this diary. It's in what you say here:

They're both rather obviously not gay
Now I don't know how obvious that is. People think I'm straight half the time, and I'm not. But pretty much, two iconic actors took on these roles and embraced them with tremendous professionalism and commitment.

    Times have changed indeed.

I resent that. I demand snark, and overly so -- Markos Moulitsas.

    •  Ah, as you know, it's very complicated. (1+ / 0-)

My best friend in high school for several years was a constant companion.  We were together every day for years.  I loved him (and still do)!  We did all kinds of things together, including publishing and artistic projects.

He turned out to be gay.  Never crossed my mind during those years!  It really did not.  He had the good sense, somehow, to know I wasn't gay and the issue never came up.  We used to go on a lot of double-dates with girls, and there are all kinds of stories there.

But he's still one of my closest friends 40 years later.  He was just at my house for a small party within the last five days.

Back when I was in my first year of college, some asshole in the community called my father (a Republican former Marine, and a good, honorable man) several times anonymously to call me a queer for hanging out with that friend of mine.

This comment is veering off-topic, and is getting too long, so let me just say that I do not have "gaydar" and I'm consistently wrong on who is or is not gay.  I don't worry about that.

If my comment about Michael Douglas and Matt Damon rings wrong somehow, let it rip.  It won't bother me.  Although we've never met, I trust you know I regard you as a friend.

And I'm absolutely certain you know I have no trouble with gay people!

    •  Matt was on board and encouraged Michael to do it (3+ / 0-)
