account open in order to receive benefits, so I'm sure there's some sort of minimum balance.  I know people who withdraw almost all of their cash and just leave $5 in the account.  But it truly is a pain - especially for those of us who don't do big banks.

Being on any sort of assistance is a pain. Anyone who hasn't dealt with it may not understand how much time and aggravation is involved, even when things go smoothly. But you get the money there. Take out all but the minimum. (I have one bank account that I keep open only because the bank ticked me off years ago. I have 11 cents in the account.) And deal with it. Anything else is not in that account.
