But this quote in the article struck me

"I am sure the industry will learn from this and change their approaches, especially around High Precipitation  (HP) cells and near Metropolitan Areas.'
No, they will never change their ways.  The more violence, the more blood, the more sponsors and the more sponsorship money.

    This rings much more true:

"But with the need to get the "most insane videos" to pay bills, more "insane" videos will be produced.""
They will continue to pay money to anyone bringing in the most "dramatic" footage

They'll put their disclaimers in, but sadly, human life means nothing anymore.

what they believed in, and there's always been people willing to kill for what they believed in. And there's always been a lot of people in between.

      •  Strange beliefs (0+ / 0-)

There have always been people willing to use drugs, drink too much, sell drugs, organize dog fights, pimp out their girlfriends, rob convenience stores, drink and drive, and chase storms.

The common factor is the foolhardy amongst them don't believe they will get caught.  The belief that bad stuff only happens to other people.  Like most beliefs, takes a good bit of delusion to live with them.

It varies with each individual chaser, what percentage of the motivation is his helping save lives, and what percentage is showing off what a badass he is.  Helen Hunt in "Twister" aside, it seems most of the adrenaline junkies are guys.
