    but that doesn't make the more scientifically literate.  Sure, the policies of their governments might make GMO less profitable.  But that doesn't make it any more or less safe.  And I'm not persuaded that there is much evidence for the proposition that possible negative consequences of GMO outweigh the benefits.

      I can't see any benefits to the consumers.

        Improved yield, which brings with it a smaller CO2 footprint.  Scientists have also been able to add Vitamin A into Rice, which would greatly reduce blindness in young children in the developing world.

            There's no way to make that assessment unless you have an idea of the relative scope of either the benefits (ie, how many children will be sighted) verses the dangers.
