    is the kind of melodramatic nonsense we call Extreme Hyperbole. That's PC for "Don't Be a Dumbass".

    In a country where political conventions are now routinely declared "protest-free" zones and protesters are "allowed" only in chain-linked areas far from the event, no one should be smug about the lengths to which authorities will go to maintain their authority or quell even the appearance of resistance.

    The notion that America is such an oppressive place that pot-banging will get you in the Gulag is melodramtic nonsense. [sic]

      I thought such language would be taken as a obvious rhetorical reference to political arrest not a literal Gulag system... but then again hand-holding in not uncommon here either. So I'll hold yours: the Gulag reference was not meant literally.
