I think novellas are really the more appropriate size for a $1 - $3 price point, and yeah it's really nice that authors can write smaller works to to complement their full sized books.

... I expect a fairly full sized novel for $3, unless its a writer like Tobias Buckell that I will gladly pay $10 for an ebook edition of a novel like Arctic Rising.

But I'm perfectly fine if my $1 ebook turns out to be a novela. OTOH, I have two 50 book public domain SF collections on both my ereading devices, so I'm never actually at risk of running short of reading material should I finish a novela when I am away from WiFi (as I often was taking Greyhound down to Knoxville and back this last holidays season).

I started the first in the series, Crystal Rain, a month or two ago and it's been hard to put the books down. It's awesome to see Caribbean culture in a sci fi setting.

... the reminder of the rhythms of speech in Grenada when I was teaching Math as a Peace Corps Volunteer in the 80's.

Arctic Rising, his near future climate chaos novel (second either out or coming soon) has a Caribbean angle too, in a crowdsource freelance spy originally from the Islands.

Absolutely love novellas. David Drake has made a very successful career with his Hammers Slammers stories.

Perfect read over a cup of coffee. Usually around 20-30 pages in length. I  think the 2 dollar price is about right for the novella length story. From a psychology standpoint the reader is far more likely to impulse buy a novella.

I would much rather read the work of a novellaist than that of a literary whore like James Patterson.
