  •  After last week's temperatures in the 80s, (14+ / 0-)

there are some predictions of patchy frost tonight.  I'm really getting tired of this!  Again, I dragged in the potted plants and covered the tomatoes with sheets.  Enough already!  It's June, damn it!

    •  Warmth building in, here. If it didn't get (8+ / 0-)

hotter than this here all summer, I would be very happy!

But I know what you mean, gizmo. Thanks for the diary last night!

AC during the day to combat heat and near 100% humidity during the day and heat at night when the temp plummets.  We're experiencing 40-50 degree temperature fluctuations.  This is nuts.

I have had to hold off buying hanging baskets for my porch because of frost warnings along with too cold temperatures at night and then when I finally went to buy them, the "good ones" were already gone.

I have to admit to hoping that they got frost bit for their early-buyer owners who may have fogotten to bring them in so they'd have to come back and deal with cleaned out greenhouses and I'm a bit ashamed of my selfishness for that.  But that was momentary and totally caused by our insane weather.

I managed to get 3 rather plain ones and 2 of them are NOT in the colors I like.  No, I didn't go elsewhere because I prefer to deal with a local (well 30 miles away) grower who runs his own family business rather than give profits to mega conglomerates.

As you say, though, it's June, I held off buying my plants until Memorial Day weekend, and I'd like Spring to start.  Now.  Immediately.  And there better not be an "early fall" or early snowfall either.  I want to enjoy, finally, my left-over, picked over hanging baskets as long as possible.

runs my local nursery - and it's about a half mile from my house and only 2 or 3 minutes by car.

I wonder if they still have any tomatoes and squash, I'm about to (finally) put the commercial cover on my greenhouse (20' x 16' x 12') and set plants in. I'll be adding two 400 watt metal halide lights and a 1000 watt sodium light during blooming/fruiting, to 'bump up' our weak WA State sunshine - and more importantly, to ensure warm enough temps to get fruit to set on the squash and tomato plants.

For about four years now, even 4th of July was so cold by fireworks time that everyone is in winter coats! Tomato plants would grow, but never flower or bear any fruit. :(
