...turning over a new leaf by taking "What Would God Want?" out of the equation.  I mean I'm not trying to help them so maybe don't tell anyone about my comment.

    What would Mothra do?

Am I the only one to believe that it isn't JUST social conservative issues keeping young people away from the republicans?

Yes, yes, yes, the social issues are abhorrent, turn young people off and need to change before there will be any hope but. . .

I don't believe that will be enough. Young people see how screwed any non-rich person is under Republican plans, they see what the Repubs want for student loans, they see them denying food and comfort for the most poor, they see the impossibility of getting health care insurance on their own. . .

It will take far more than updating their social stance to get young people interested, it's called overall moderation and that isn't happening.

Blessed are the peacemakers, the poor, the meek and the sick. Message to Repug Fundies: "DO you really wonder "what would Jesus do?" I didn't think so.

The "social conservatism" (bigotry, racism, sexism, and Jesus-humping-24-7) is a non-starter.

There are segments of young people who think government should be marginalized. That's not an un-winning message.

I mean if Ron Paul had switched his abortion position he'd probably have had more female supporters. Not enough to win because he's Ron Paul and he's still working with the Republicans.  However, the underlying theory is rock solid.

But yeah. They aren't going to listen to reason. If they were floating on debris in the middle of the ocean and Jesus was in the ocean and they were holding his hand, they would never let go.

Which is why even though I'm not a registered Democrat, that's all I've been voting for lately. I don't really have an option, but maybe eventually they will take mention of the Christian god out of their national party platform and I'll feel even better about supporting them with my votes.
