  •  Ford was the best we'd ever get from TN (11+ / 0-)

If Booker is the best we can get from NJ, we're totally fooked.  I don't know (nor do I really care) whether he's a nice guy.  Reagan was considered to be a nice guy, and RFK was not considered to be one.

NJ has gone blue for the last 6 presidential elections.  It's bad enough that NY has 2 devoted Friends of FIRE in the Senate.  We don't need for that contagion to spread across the Hudson.

Some men see things as they are and ask why. I dream of things that never were and ask why not?

I'm weary of the comparisons to Ford, even though I made it; but I sort of like comparisons to Baucus, Bill Nelson and Lieberman as well.

But another thing to consider is that Booker is definitely using this as a stepping stone to something, I think.  I highly doubt he's in the Senate without trying to do something national by 2020.  That's just me though.

He needs the Senate seat as much as Christie needed the governorship back in 2009. You can't mount a Presidential campaign as a mayor or a US Attorney, no matter how impressive your record is. You need something bigger.

And now Booker will get his because, let's be honest, this Senate seat is his. Bitch all you want, no one's going to stop him.

        Cory Booker is very smart.

        Max Baucus ... isn't.

That said, I agree with everything you wrote in this diary. I am very tired of "almost" Democrats. The corporatocracy may be the biggest threat faced by our country and the entire planet -- much, much greater than the threat posed by any terrorist group. It is so very disappointing that somebody as smart and charismatic as Booker is part of it.

experience. Booker has shown moments of self-promotion, not necessarily that of wisdom. Clever is more apt, something he shares with many politicians.

because he made the transition to Wall St. and comes on MSNBC with frequency and spews huge and obvious amounts of corporo-speak.
