and very well written Billy, and I very much appreciate your participating in the comments section. Acting in a highly moral way is not predicated upon being straight, or religious, or white, or male, or well to do either, and your diary proves this in a very compelling manner, and for that I say Thanks!

religious. Now, given she's a professor (as am I) and a science professor to boot, SHE sometimes closes herself in a closet. But she trusted me with the information, and a lot of other people know. I got one interesting vision of her mental reality when I said, at lunch with a couple of our colleagues, that the only thing I didn't like was when people assumed that morality could come only from God. She looked at me, genuinely confused, truly not comprehending: Where else could it come from? Quite a window on what true belief feels like. She has no issues with evolution, and I said that I thought it made sense for morality to be a product of evolution in each species.

We all understand that freedom isn't free. What Romney and Ryan don't understand is that neither is opportunity. We have to invest in it.

Thank you for sharing this...it's am important example for someone like me to be reminded of.

I find I often have to explain to people that no, the reason I don't go to church is not because I haven't found the right church or the right religion, but because I don't believe in God.

That part seems really hard for many in my circle of acquaintanceship to grasp.

They can deal with no attending a regular church service, but nearly always append the question, " but, you believe in G*d, right??

that I went to CCD to help me learn how to be a good person. I'd tell her now "You didn't need CCD to do that."
