    that people who basically have the same or similar political positions as Gomez have concluded that he has no ability as a demagogue, and so do not want to associate themselves with ineptness. It seems that Gomez won't even be the "flavor of the month" on the right.

      tepid on him. Our tiny but noisy hard-core right wing thinks he's both inept and too liberal. Moderates think he's not ready for prime time and following bad advice.

      Both candidates he beat in the low-turnout primary have long pedigrees in MA politics. Their supporters, who are the heart and soul of the local GOP such as it is, are peeved at Gomez. There's a sense that he bought the primary (he was the only one on TV, with several times more cash available than either opponent because he gave his own campaign $600K and raised another $600K from his private equity friends) but isn't a great candidate. They'll rally around him to some extent but with no enthusiasm.
