But, isn't this creeping towards an authoritarian government.  Whatever privacy you may have had no matter its expression or form seems to have disappeared completely.

      ...authorized by Congress.

Not paranoid at all.  Been reported on at Daily Kos for seven years now.  Just not hit the mainstream media, likely because of AP and Fox having their records touched.

law after 9-11, my concerns have been exactly that. So no, I do not think you are being paranoid.  I have worried about this being a possiblity since we saw those planes crashing into the towers. I not only cried, wept, mourned for the victims as everyone was doing, but I got this feeling of dread about how this attack might change our country in negative ways that would last a lifetime if not forever.  And I got this feeling of dread about how government would handle this and how the legislation would unfold.

      •  There is no on who supports the Patriot Act ... (0+ / 0-)

        ... who isn't a traitor.

Now, I prefer our traitors to their traitors. There are shades of darkness here. Not all is pitch black. (Nor is any reference to skin shade intended when I say that, of course.) But in facilitating this stuff, our president has betrayed the Constitution in a fundamental way. As a law professor, he's well aware of this. Yet he persists in it.

There is no conceivable way the Constitution can be interpreted in good faith so as to stretch it to allow this behavior.

    •  there's no "creeping toward" (0+ / 0-)

It IS authoritarian government. So far they are choosing not to go after most of us, especially if you're not-black, not-brown, and not-poor. (They haven't even figured out how to stop paying welfare benefits and food stamps to dead people, so there is a competence problem for sure.) But they COULD, at any time. That means we all live on sufferance, and the whims of whoever is in power at any particular time.
