  •  I Work on a Boat in the Gulf of Mexico (10+ / 0-)

...and I'm out here right now.  But life on board the boat can be a little annoying at times.

One of the mates, up here on the bridge, has a very loud voice and his favorite subject is pickup trucks.  The 6.2L engine, to be specific.

The crew is full of rasslin' fans.  Last night we were down due to equipment failure, and I thought I might have a chance to watch the hockey game.  Not so much. And the game before, when we were down on weather? Some guy was watching a biography of Reagan.

I like to get a bit of exercise out here.  Get out on the helipad, do some lunges, run in place.  But when the waves kick up, I can't, unless I feel like dislocating both kneecaps.

Guys work at all hours of day.  Most shifts run from 12 to 12.  Some run from 6 to 6.  Others run from 9 to 9.  But what's guaranteed, is that whenever someone's just gotten up to come on shift, they'll say "Good morning."  7 AM? "Good morning."  1 PM?  "Good morning."  11:30 at night? "Good morning."  What the hell!

    •  I'm guilty of that (5+ / 0-)

I like to goof around, so sometimes when people call me, I say in a very chipper voice "Good morning!"

Sometimes (at first) they'd laugh, other times they'd correct me. Recently a friend of mine called in the evening, and I said something else. He said "What? I don't get a 'Good Morning'??" LOL

So I will apologize for them.... sorry! :)

    •  Oh, my gosh, agramante, (4+ / 0-)

my nephew just quit a job with Edison Chouest.  He's been down there for a buncha years.  Has his fancy first mate watchamacallit license.  Got fed up and just a week ago sent in his "See ya!" letter.

Good luck to you.  I know the money can be good, but the price for that pay is high.

Can you call yourself a real liberal if you aren't reading driftglass?
