A "surprise" visit to his former roommate...

Did the roommate even think for just a SECOND - hey buddy, wait right here on the doorstep, I have to secure my weapon before you come in with your little boy...

Was this a military roommate?  Did the dad even think, hey buddy, I know it's a surprise, wanted to see you, maybe show you pix of my new baby - is it safe to bring my little boy in - if you have a weapon, is it secure?

Guns are so prevalent - no matter where you live.

No more surprise visits.  No more dropping by.

No more sending your kids to play with their pals next door or down the street unless you interview the parents first and find out if they have guns, are they locked up at all times?

Maybe all gun owners should be required to post one of those signs on their front door - "Weapons Kept in this Household" - you know like Beware of Dog or ADT burglar alarm signs?  Doesn't require a license, carry permit or anything regulatory.  Just a warning sign.

They're so proud and happy to own guns, the least they can do is alert anybody who comes to the front door, so they can at least ask if the kept weapons are secured before they come inside or let their kids come over to play.

I think of all the times when I was growing up that we ran in and out of each others' houses - two of the dads on the block were cops - we never thought about people with guns in their houses.  I don't recall seeing either cop's gun while playing in their house with their kids - but I think of how things have changed so much that a child's freedom to play must now be inhibited by having to have your parent go with you, knock on the door, ask if there is a weapon inside, is it secured - prove it and THEN I get to play Barbies or Hot Wheels or Monopoly with my friends?

We have all lost something precious - our children's right to enjoy a carefree childhood has been circumvented by second amendment rights.
