    use of solar energy for things like water and pool heating, which should always be considered as a priority if personal and technical feasibility enables it for a person in their home.

    Similarly, if natural gas or propane is not available, limited use of electric resistance heating is an appropriate exercise of energy stewardship if it is intended for supplemental-only BTU heat input in a aqueous system in which the primary heat input is solar.

    For space heating in northern climates probably the best you can do right now is passive solar as a heat input mode.
