I had arranged a family reunion or sorts in 2007.  I came to Yellowstone with my 4 kids (Wife was ill and could not travel) from SE Pennsylvania.  Brother and family came from Omaha, Parents and sister and her two kids came from Great Falls, MT.  We camped at the Marina at Yellowstone Lake.  First full day there, we went to Mammoth Hot Springs in the north.  I had my 4 kids (ages 12, 9 and twins who were 6) plus my sister's son (3) in my van.  We all took off at about 10:00 in the morning.  I was the last one out of the campground.

We had only gone 15 miles or so when my nephew reported that he had to go to the bathroom so I turned around and drove a couple of miles back to the lst thermal feature with facilities.  He relieved himself, and then we were off again.  By then, the rest of the family were long gone.  I decided not to rush it to try and catch up.  As we were approaching the northern end of the Hayden valley, I noticed a number of cars lining up on the side of the road.  I stopped and got out to see what we could see.  About a mile off, and on the other side of the Yellowstone River, you could clearly see with binoculars several wolves running back and forth along the river bank.  I even caught a short clip with my video camera. We got to see the wolves, and no one else did.  So, people, take your time.  You never know what you might see, and you may never get another chance.

My son had a wolf story. He climbed up a mountain in North Vancouver, with a plan to ride his dirt bike down. It took him 1/2 hr to hike to the top but barely 10 min. to bike down. On the way down, he came to a clearing where there was a wolf on the path staring at him. He thought he should warn others about the wolf but the only thing he had time for was to yell "WOLF!" as he speeded past it. He said the wolf looked at him as if it thought he was crazy.
