    to see if the online OED really has your definition.  But my compact edition OED (admittedly over 40 years old) does not.  Not sure why you won't just change the word - it seems a fair number of us found it jarring.

    On the topic of your diary - this is an ongoing and serious problem.  Thank you for highlighting this case.

      entries, has the preying version of the verb, as well as time-linked predating, meaning to have occurred or existed before the time discussed. British pronunciation rules though.

      I know the damned Brits created the language but the American version rules now. You Brits can't have your language back, at least in regard to pronunciation.
