statement.  He's been quite happy not to have a debate for the past 8 years.  Now he wants us to believe that he welcomes it?  Come on ---- that's political BS.  Meanwhile they'll prosecute Snowden to the full extent of the law, because, after all, they really welcome a debate?   If it weren't for Snowden, there would not be any debate.  We would have no idea what they are doing.

The elevation of appearance over substance, of celebrity over character, of short term gains over lasting achievement displays a poverty of ambition. It distracts you from what's truly important. - Barack Obama

    •  He had a specific agenda he's met: (0+ / 0-)

cripple AQ and get bin Laden.  He has NEVER wavered from that agenda and he's spoken of it often, publicly.  I'd guess he thought that was the only sensible reason for the Patriot Act.  I'd also guess he's discovered that stopping terrorists is a zero sum game that needs to stop.

You don't know what you're up against until you get there in most aspects of living.  Being President pretty much multiplies that reality exponentially.  He might have decided we needed this conversation sooner but there was that pesky economic crash and an opposition willing to kill the country to save it from a black President who succeeds.

I'm not looking for a love that will lift me up and carry me away. A love that will stroll alongside and make a few amusing comments will suffice.

      •  Declining GDP ended years ago and he hasn't been (0+ / 0-)

able to get any kind of stimulus through Congress since 2010.  So that's a non-issue.  He's not too busy to bag the hypocrisy, I.  Please.
