  •  the individual charges don't (0+ / 0-)

matter as much as the number of treatments, the number of pills and jabs and days in the hospital, and the number of tests and scans — etc., etc., etc.,

But to charge the cost of a bottle of Ibuprofen for a single tablet or $8.00 for the use of the little cotton swab with alcohol which they dab your arm with after getting an injection is against even the most basic tenets of good free market capitalism.
Nonsense. The most basic tenet is all that the traffic could bear. Make the most money you can.

If you think that any part of the US health care system is part of a free market you have never been really sick or in severe pain and scared about it. You have very little free choice.

You can not have a free market when the knowledge is so uneven. When there is no free choice. When the highest aim of good care is to make a person need less care you can't have a "market" of any sort we know.

You can compete on quality for customers but if you try on costs you have to define what you are getting.

I'm asking you to believe. Not in my ability to bring about real change in Washington ... *I'm asking you to believe in yours.* Barack Obama
