  •  This is the kind of problem that defies solution (5+ / 0-)

A problem requiring massive investment to forestall vaguely-defined tragedies that are mostly to occur at some indeterminate date in the future and to people most of whom have little power, based upon an unprecedented set of circumstances resulting from the very foundation of our civilization's support system. Everything is working against politicians getting this done.

Our main hope is that the economics of renewables undermine the fossil-fuel behemoth, and quickly. This is starting to happen as wind and solar are now cheaper than coal in many places. Utilities are gearing up to fight the net metering that's helping drive rapid adoption of rooftop solar.

One of the most important things we can do is to limit the power of entrenched fossil-fuel industries to fight what economics is going to naturally bring about over the next decade. It may be literally all we can do politically.

There's a difference between a responsible gun owner and one that's been lucky so far.
