but a lot of people are pretty snobby about "outdated" food. my employer throws away a lot of perfectly good food, and seems unable to discern sell by, use by.  Working for 16 years at a Job corps also taught me that a majority of 16-20 year olds see leftovers as 'nasty" and won't eat them.  Of course, they were not hungry, and hunger should trump all that.

I'd add that commodities should be brought back. Gubmint cheese, peanut butter, etc. to replace the cash payouts to agribusiness.

night that our food shelf needs peanut butter. When did that stop being given out in those giant cans? They were asking for tuna, too. Something has really changed.

      •  Why? you'd think they'd avoid it like the plague (2+ / 0-)

you know, what with everybody being allergic to peanuts these days and all.

In any event, I too am surprised.  Very surprised.

      •  It'a been a while for commodities. (0+ / 0-)

Not sure, but maybe around the time agri-biz started pouring money into buying Congresspeople? Rather than go to all the trouble to actually produce food, they began just getting payments... so no extra. Eat cake.
