      The Arab Spring got crushed in Bahrain with tacit U.S. support.

      As a NATO member, Turkey gets even more of a pass than Bahrain. In the past, Western support was never withdrawn, despite repeated coups against civilian governments by the Turkish military.

          … because we helped the Shah crush the Left in Iran.

          The U.S. Cold Warriors advising the Shah were so fixated on battling the Tudeh (Iranian communist) party, they forgot to take a broader view of the history, culture, and social makeup of the country as a whole.

          Besides, the Left always wants to nationalize things like the oil industry, which is why the U.S. overthrew the democratic government of Iran in 1953 and installed the Shah in the first place.
