  •  Worthless? (4+ / 0-)

It depends on who they are really trying to find.  Obviously, the Boston bombers were not important to them.  However, an activist trying to stop the Keystone Pipeline or get GM foods at least labeled, could get a serious knock at the door by the FBI and hauled away based on trumped up charges using data supplied by the NSA.  The interests of corporations is what matters, not the security of American citizens.

Even William Binney, who resigned from the NSA, had FBI guns pointed at him.  (see his interview on DemocracyNow - http://www.democracynow.org/...)

    •  Much more to the point. Who are the targets and (4+ / 0-)

      who are the suspects?

Does the NSA mass data program better combat terrorists, as in Boston, or does it better combat national movements like Occupy Wall Street?  Union protests?  Strikes and picket lines?

Anyone who believes all that 100% on everyone, all the time, information is necessary to ferret out foreign threats is smoking something funny.

"The law is meant to be my servant and not my master, still less my torturer and my murderer." -- James Baldwin. July 11, 1966.
