  •  Hey it's not just Brooks. Plenty of 'liberal' (7+ / 0-)

pundits are on the airwaves saying stupid shit.

Karen Finney yesterday "would we be outraged if the NSA was able to prevent the Boston bombings?"

Uh, well gee Finney, I guess you're right. We're just not spying enough.

Here's a question for you Finney, with the billions of records already collected, why weren't the Boston bombings prevented.

    •  Karen Finney actually shocked me with that bit of (6+ / 0-)

      idiocy.

With all the data mining that is already being done, why didn't NSA, et al know about the Boston bombings?? It's not like the two men weren't using cell phones, being filmed at stores and on street corners.

So if all this data is necessary, why didn't it do any good?

Too much collecting, too little analysis.

Sadly, we said the same exact thing after 9/11/2001.

"protect" us by negating many of our rights.

Are we any safer for it?  Or could the same protections have been done without shredding the Constitution?

You are not going to stop all acts of terrorism (especially in a country so in love with guns as ours.)    Survellience has very little to do with preventing terrorism but a lot to do with preventing large scale dissent.

when you're trying to find a needle in a haystack, but don't know what the needle even looks like...all you wind up with is a huge pile of........hay.

And guess what that becomes, after it's fed to the bull?

Piles of useless data are just that.

But isn't it comforting that we don't have to worry about those pesky protesters wanting equality, fair treatment, fair wages, all that dfh stuff.

Wow.  Don't we feel safe now.

          sigh.

      •  I think it goes to signal-to-noise ratio. When (1+ / 0-)

you vacuum up still more data, you increase the 'noise' making it all the more difficult to discern the 'signal' within.
