    Think FRESH.

    A huge salad.
    Fresh baked bread.
Yes, a huge nice cut of steak (or, in my case, mom's shrimp n grits).
    Yes, fresh strawberry shortcake.
Yes, if he drinks, a nice bottle of wine (or maybe just a good six-pack).

Any place you can provide a 'choice' of so (he has been without the option of choice for a long time).

The most important ingredient will be friendship and laughter...Bon Apetit to you and your friend.

Never argue with a fool, onlookers may not be able to tell the difference.

with homemade fried in a pan, potatos.

Or a nice roast beef with potatos and vegetables cooked around the meat. With au jus gravy.

And yes Kysen, strawberry shortcake sounds great. (Don't forget to sprinkle a little sugar or Splenda on the strawberries to make sure they're sweet enough).

I like banana, strawberry shortcake, even sweeter with a layer of bananas in the middle.

A spaghetti with meatballs, and or sausage dinner the second night.

Spaghetti is such comfort food. With Italian desserts.

Have lots of other fresh fruits around too. (Find out what kind he likes).

I love fresh squeezed orange juice, red delicious apples, red or black grapes and lots of melon (if you can still get them in season, otherwise melon is tasteless).

Your friend probably didn't get much fresh fruit in jail.

Also have lots of great beverages. Soda, a good coffee and tea, plus spring water. The water in jail must be horrible.

I bet he'd love a good cup of coffee/w cream the first thing when he gets home. Great Coffee

(I would avoid and not encourage alcohol at this time. But maybe one or two glasses of wine; or a few beers, after dinner, if your friend really wants to).

He might need a few drinks after being in jail all that time. But if he's on probation don't let him drink too much and get drunk.

I rec'd and tipped this diary. You are such a good friend, Keith.

All the best to your friend. I'm sure he will be fine now and do well. Jail is, a learning experience.

for me, I'd want a really great ice cream, and a really great root beer -- both of which probably haven't existed for him inside!

about steak and crunchy fresh bread -- any idea how his teeth did? I can imagine the possibility major deterioration under the circumstances, and difficulty chewing a lot of things!

choices seems like a real good idea too, but might be a bit overwhelming...

this is a really GREAT idea, congratulations on being such a thoughtful good-friend!
