This morning (actually last night) I saw that Windows 7 wanted to do its monthly 16 new updates with restart thing. So, as always, I went through with it, including the optional updates. And now Media Center's hosed and I can't tune any channels. Specifically, because my particular tuner card (Ceton InfiniTV) seems to require being reinstalled every time I reboot, I had to go through the reinstallation process, and it's stuck on the part where it has to download the latest setup data. I don't recall it ever being stuck at that part (and obviously I have a working internet connection).

So here's my paranoid thought. Microsoft is one of the companies allegedly giving the NSA private data on Americans. A bunch of new "updates" and "fixes" were just installed on my PC. I've been a critic of the NSA, government and even Microsoft over the years. I regularly read and often comment on left-leaning blogs that are similarly critical of these organizations. And now my PC's acting weird. Any connection? Could any of these  "updates" and "fixes" be spying SW? (As if there's anything on my PC that would be interesting to anyone in the government and/or that they can't already get in other ways, both lawfully and not.) Most likely it's a weird coincidence, but still.
