  •  The Border Patrol is way out of hand. (4+ / 0-)

The fault really lies with those who created "Homeland Security," a frightening concept by any measure.

Once a bureaucracy and organization have a goal, they will single-mindedly pursue that goal.  If you want to rein them in and keep them under control, you've got to have bright clear lines and plenty of rules.

It isn't the fault of any one person working in DHS or BP, it is the nature of a bureaucracy: single-minded pursuit of their goal. Since such a free hand was granted to DHS to "keep us safe" (hahhahaha), they're going to sooner or later get up in people's faces for littler and littler things.

That's why I don't believe the organization should exist at all.  Border Patrol should be about .... the border.  Immigration should be about immigrants, not roadblocks for all cars 100 miles inside the USA. Customs should be about import inspections. etc.

To take all those functions and slap "Homeland Security" on them, will always lead to bureaucratic overreach in pursuit of their goal. That's the nature of bureaucracies.
