      The Catholic Church needn't accept the state's definition of marriage when defining "extramarital affair"; they already deny the validity of civil divorce, right?

        from a church point if view they deny civil divorce (or divorce of any kind)

        at the same time though, they understand that civilly married couples have the right to use the word married and are actually married in the eyes of the state and in the eyes of God as experienced in more progressive churches
