  •  We only feel disgust (11+ / 0-)

    because we blame America first.

    We're not true Americans. Clearly.

PS: What the hell is wrong with people?

The GOP can't win on ideas. They can only win by lying, cheating, and stealing. So they do.

of the song "You've Got to be Taught" from South Pacific.  There's the answer to your question.

"A voice is heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children and refusing to be comforted, because they are no more." - from the prophet Jeremiah

"What the hell is wrong with white people"

Fear doesn't just breed incomprehension. It also breeds a spiteful, resentful hate of anyone and everyone who is in any way different from you.

      •  Not defending the haters, but here's the deal (4+ / 0-)

Things have been getting worse and worse for many white people. Oh, they're still a step above most minorities, but their economic way of life has stagnated and even declined over the past thirty years.

The increasing economic inequality has actually affected white people because minorities were already at the bottom. The highschool-educated white man who used to be able to earn a living and support a family can no longer do so. The factory jobs are gone, and he's too rough and uncouth to work at a call center or any other menial white-collar job.

Increasingly, along with the black and brown, the white man (and woman) is becoming a "Left Behind," someone the world has simply passed by. This leads to looking for someone to blame. People need scapegoats.

And of course, the 1% is to blame, but thanks to Calvinism, American culture has long worshipped wealth and loathed the poor. Therefore the white Left Behinds blame the black and the brown, even though those two are left behind too.

We are an angry and hurting nation. That doesn't justify hate on an individual level, but it explains much at the sociological level. We are being brutalized, and the question is whether we'll rear up against our abusers (which like it or not include Obama's ilk), or if like the German people, we descend into madness and fascism.

This is an era of tribes. You're supposed to find your people, be they Spurs fans, Blackhawk hockey fans, fellow worshippers, geeks (and the myriad geek tribes), businessmen, etc, and connect yourself to them with common behaviors.

The radical right has decided that their common behavior is no gov't, low/nonexistent taxes, and a celebration of the mythical American White Anglo-Saxon Protestant society. Their leaders (political, entertainment, and social) have shown their tribe that nasty, demeaning, bigoted behavior is how to show membership in the tribe. Think of a sports rivalry on the political level. Now they can no longer act or react in any other way.

black unemployment is more than double that of whites and even in the best economies that remains unchanged; for every dollar white men make, black men make less than 75 women make less than 70 cents, Blackness has carried a presumption of guilt and suspicion from the earliest black codes in the early 17th century to  Stop and Frisk today

If they think things are so bad for them, they ought to try it without the white privilege...

The ruling ethnicity of this nation has carried animus towards "the other" since 1607... whether that other is black, hispanic, native american, or whatever... it is hardly new and that animosity has always manifest in extremely ugly ways from Chattel Slavery the Trail of Tears to  Jim Crow to the Red Summer or 1919 to Massive Resistance to the constant stream of ugly racism directed at the POTUS and the First Family.

And the 1% is not to blame entirely... a whole bunch of people in the 99% continue to vote those into office who exist to maintain the advantage of the few at the expense of the many despite people of color for years being the canary in the coal mine constantly saying that was a bad idea...

Fear doesn't just breed incomprehension. It also breeds a spiteful, resentful hate of anyone and everyone who is in any way different from you.
