  •  My goodness you write well! (6+ / 0-)

    Such passion.  Love the diary.

Too bad I can't stand Heathcliff, even after two readings of the novel (as a teen and then 20 years later - to be sure I wasn't remembering incorrectly).

Full disclosure - I am a committed Janeite. And you know the Austen/Bronte divide is very wide. ;)

I agree, is in that same crew of somewhat sadistic authors. I think that's what makes me love them even more. I will cut Austin some slack. Most of her novels have happy endings, yes? (I need to think on that one... I'm not sure I've read all of Jane's novels.)

    •  That is probably true, Most Awesome Nana (6+ / 0-)

But you know--for me, that's like comparing dogs and cats, apples and oranges, rainy days and halcyon days.  I like both Austen and the Brontes!  I want both!

Am I exceptionally well adjusted because I like dogs and cats, etc.?  Or too much like "My last Duchess"?

She liked whate'er she looked on,
      And her looks went everywhere.

      LOL!

      •  I also like dogs and cats. (4+ / 0-)

We would be very dull people if we only liked certain types of things.

The Brontes couldn't stand Austen's works; said some very negative - and nasty - things about them.  But I did not know this till many years after I became an Austen fan and decided I wasn't fond of the Brontes at all.

BTW, I am not just a fan of happy endings.  I am also a big fan of Daphne du Maurier and Ruth Rendell.  I probably prefer scares to lovers' angst.
