  •  One of the things that I find (7+ / 0-)

really telling is the members of congress who have just now received a briefing on the NSA activities and are reacting with statements of serious concern. I take that to mean that "oversight" has been passive and uninformed.

    •  i'm not sure what to make of that. (4+ / 0-)

the cynic in me says they're playing "concern" to the cameras.    but who the hell knows.

from liberal Democrats, I would be inclined to agree with you. However, it seems to be spread more widely over the political spectrum.

from not having an iota of confidence in the basic 'intelligence' of elected members of the Republican party and while a bit more respect for elected Democrats, i'm not sure how many are willing to admit they've long known about metadata, corporate creep or anything else that's been brought to light.

however, if they are truly surprised, then it's just a whole lot worse than i imagined.

either way, just having a cynical day, i guess.  i'm having a hard time believing this horse will ever be brought home.  that doesn't mean i won't do what i can where i am.

good diary, thanks.   i need links to access WaPo since i won't register.   so a bit a subversion on your end helped me out.   ;-)

    •  They're darn good at statements of serious concern (1+ / 0-)

Just don't ask them to DO anything.   If they have any serious concern, it is that you might expect them to do something.  Most of them are entirely comfortable with total secrecy because the less we know the less we can expect them to DO.

I don't care what they say anymore.  I'm watching what they DO and I'm going to just keep voting the bums out until I wind up with someone who will DO something.  I doubt I will live long enough, but that's my plan, outcome based voting.

Oh, you're concerned about the Patriot Act?   How nice.  Oh, you voted against it.  How nice.  Did you get it repealed?  No?  Oh, well, call me when you get that done.  I'm not sending you to Washington to pretend to do something.  I've got my list of deliverables, and I don't see that you've delivered anything on my list.
