    Once you get past... oh, someplace, it turns to a two-laner. Goes along the American River for quite a ways, and is most beautiful.

    From 50, you can hook into Highway 89 and then get into some spectacular high country.

      If you go up Highway 50, you can turn north onto Highway 49 at Placerville, and about 30 miles or so will get you to Colma, which is the site of Sutter's Mill, where the Gold Rush started.

      Great scenery, historic and beautiful state park, and well worth it if you have the time.
