    Cynthia Ozick, Isabel Allende, Sylvia Plath, Virginia Woolf, Annie Proulx, Jane Smiley, Arundati Roy, Dorothy Sayers, Maxine Whatshername, Jennifer Egan, Patricia McKillip, Joan Didion, Octavia Butler ...

    There are so many to choose from, despite the history of exclusion. And if we included memoir, we'd get a shitload more contemporary female authors. Which is a different subject, but one I find interesting, how genres are gendered.
