The Stars are Staring Back at Us

    Iran just launched 4 satellites
To add to Heaven's sparkling lights.

As we gaze into the stars,
That eternal blanket of lighted mystery,
    Our spaceship Hope soars
    into the blanket milky mist,
    Fueled by our dreams
of a world united and free.

    Until recently.

    Now it sometimes feels
    that those eternal lights above
    have new cousins
    thrust into their midst.

    Spying eyes with evil intent.

    Our hopeful heart now rent,
    The stars are looking back
    Registering our every move,
    each character we write
    from a cozy nook
    to be stored and used,
    if power feels a need,
to twist our cacophony of screed
    to prove we're unpatriotic,
    poetic crooks.

    There is nowhere to run
    or hide from fiction or
    the most heinous fact.

    Humanity is hell bent
    to drop the curtain
    on its own last act.

    But the roaches will survive.

It's difficult to be happy knowing so many suffer. We must unite.
