    around five or so years ago the border started to get harder. Costs jumped from $750 to $1200 to $2000 and now it's around 4K. The mom and pop operations are no more. Coyotes are part of the drug syndicates that operate even in small towns in distant provinces.

    The coyotes themselves are desperate and rolling the dice in a very dangerous occupation. The no mans land between is inhabited by pretty bad bandits. Lots of hold ups.

    Border patrol agents are scared of drug runners with guns and they cuss people out a lot, pushing and shoving.

    Sometimes if it's not enough people they won't even bust them, or maybe their truck is full.

    E verify would end much of the crossings. Probably make a huge dent in deaths. But we don't want to pay Americans to work. Lettuce would cost more one Kossak told me. Who would clean house? or mow the lawn? Or build anything. Costs would rise for upper middle class people.
