    and whether or not it is legal...

    I'm assuming, as a private school, that she is an at-will employee, which means the school board can fire her for whatever reason they want, or no reason as long as it doesn't violate civil rights law.

    There's also the legal doctrine of the "ministerial exception," where courts have steadily exempted religious employers (even in secular fields like education, school, and housing) from federal and state labor laws.  

    I imagine she has little or no recourse, other than public pressure.

      Then again, if she divorced the asshole and re-married, they would have probably fired her for that so she's in a no-win situation anyway.
