  •  Folks .. the NSA is the military! (0+ / 0-)

Wrap your head around that.  The United States military is collecting YOUR private communications!  If that isn't rot then what is?

This is a violation of law on many levels:

    1) 1st and 4th amendment.
    2) Posse Comitatus Act

    This is bad stuff!

The NSA started as a unit within the military to collect signals from foreign sources.  They are regulated by the FISA court.  How is possible that they can now collect signals that are purely domestic and do it without a targeted FISA order?  If the only defense is that the FISA court gave them blanket authority to do this then there is something rotten with the secret FISA court.  This has to stop now.

    •  No, the NSA is not the military (0+ / 0-)

The NSA is it's own agency. I know it looks confusing from the outside, but it is it's own agency with it's own chain of command. It's no more the military than the FBI.

However, that being said, lots of ex military types like to make big bucks working for security contractors. They do it because they know the job and have the security clearances and internal connections.

It's an aspect of revolving door politics, that we have neglected.

The mentality in the military tends to favor expediency over a lot of other things. When that is the case, rights and laws can fall by the wayside in a moment of overzealousness. And when money is involved, that could really put a screw to things.
