  •  Digital Bill of Rights? (5+ / 0-)

It'd be great if an offensive move came out of this. Right now everyone's playing defense, but we can do something about this. Certainly trying to learn what FISA does is helpful, but we need to focus on the larger goal of stopping this shit from happening.

We need a digital Bill of Rights, outlining rights we do have rather than making certain acts illegal as we find them occurring.

An example digital right: a common means of keeping your internet activities (email, chatting, browsing, etc) more private is the use of a VPN, virtual private network. This prevents your traffic from being directly read or interpreted as it's encrypted.

Believe it or not, some countries have banned the use of VPNs by individual citizens, most recently Pakistan. A VPN is nothing more than, for example, having a private conversation. Do we have the right or expectation to having private conversations, of any kind? This should be a right, codified by law.
