  •  Not because of taxes. (10+ / 0-)

GE closed all their factories in the U.S. and shipped all those jobs to China for the same reason Apple, Motorola and Levi Strauss did. It's not simply to evade taxes, but to evade the entire spectrum of responsible corporate citizenship that was the expected standard from the Teddy Roosevelt progressive era right through to the election of Ronald Reagan.

and they are beginning to return assembly of their products to the US, e.g., their upcoming desktop computer which is going to be amazing from what I've seen. None of these corporations are innocent, but they do what corporations are designed to do: function without a conscious for the benefit of the stockholders. It's the design of corporate law that is at fault.

      •  But who writes corporate law? (4+ / 0-)

Why, the U.S. corporations do. Blaming it on 'government' is utterly misleading.

Corporate lobbyists hand the ready-to-pass text of new laws to their boot-licks in Congress and in state legislatures. Along with a briefcase full of campaign cash. Consequently corporate law tends to be exactly what large corporations want it to be.

but ultimately it's still our fault for complacently letting them get away with it. If we continue to have and maintain a system where our votes don't really count because everyone who is running is a corporatist, who's fault is that?

      •  only because Lenovo and Foxconn (0+ / 0-)

        are moving on them.

Foxconn figured out they could sell apple merchandise through Foxconn stores and if they understood manufacturing and they understood retail, they could figure out
        design.
