  •  Nope. (12+ / 0-)

The point was about the pointless arguing. The endless, incessant arguing by the same small group of posters who insist in engaging in endless battles even though no one is going to change anyone's mind from the other side of the divide.

Most of these folks just want to argue. Endlessly. Filling diary after diary with their inane back-and-forths, not unlike the Israeli-Palestinian diaries.

Want to discuss NSA? Go for it. But the arguing over the appropriate way to discuss the topic is nothing but senseless, inane meta.

Calling other DKos members "weenies" is a personal insult and therefore against site rules.

message. You don't get banned. But you have to pay $100.00 and go to prison for day.

    •  Clearly, the arguing seems senseless to you, (0+ / 0-)

but it isn't to posters who fail to enjoy constant inappropriate
references to the Holocaust and Hitler.

Your clever diary unleashed another wild rumpus of Hitler merriment.  Of course you wish that those who object would just shut up and let the rumpus continue.

Many already have and are leaving you to your fun.

      It's the Supreme Court, stupid!

No, that's not what I wish. I wish that all those who constantly go looking for a fight in diary after diary (the same fight, over and over), and it's a small group of folks, would just find better things to do.

When the Israeli-Palsetinian battlers spend hours battering one another in diaries, those diaries are usually not on the rec list. But practically every recent diary on the NSA gets clogged with same small group of assholes HRing one another because this small group of assholes insists on battling about whether Nazi references are appropriate when discussing the NSA story.

        That's the definition of meta.

I do NOT want to argue!

Bad things aren't bad! And anyway, there's mitigation!

    •  The great thing about this site is that you are (0+ / 0-)

permitted to ignore anything you don't like.

      •  Except when four or five diaries on the rec list (0+ / 0-)

... are jammed with the same idiots HRing each other back-and-forth on the same meta subject.

        •  You can still skedaddle out of them when you (0+ / 0-)

realize what's going on.  If more people did that maybe some of those diaries wouldn't get on the rec list.  There are a lot of interesting diaries that don't get on the rec list.

Some people like to use dkos for activism.
Some people like to use dkos to get the news.
Some people like to use dkos to give their opinions.
Some people like to write personal stories about themselves.
Some people like to argue and go back-and-forth.
Some people want to show how smart they are.
Some people have deeply held political positions they want to defend against all nay-sayers.
Some people like to pick fights.
Some people seem to want to be annoyed by others.

It is not our call to say how this site should be used, or who can use it.

People use this site because they get something from it; no one is forced to read or write anything here.  If 300 or 500 users are having a massive verbal brawl, they must find something fulfilling in that or they wouldn't bother.  Who am I or you to say that is wrong or they shouldn't do that?

The public is invited to use this site - and with the public you get a certain amount of rudeness and crassness.  There are many private web-sites you can view without any public rudeness or crassness whatsoever.

As ObserveIV points out, if you don't like what you see, you can stop reading at anytime.

I have read some fine articles by Bob Johnson, easily rec page material.  If you don't like what is on the rec page, then go write something stellar to replace what's on the rec page.

      •  Some folks have lots of work to do, but also... (0+ / 0-)

        ...have a tendency to procrastinate.

And if that work that needs to be done has to be done on a computer...well...need I say more?
