  •  First Spring I Raced College Sail Dinghies (9+ / 0-)

was at the beginning of the season, end of winter quarter believe it or not, around St. Paddy's Day.

It was solidly winter but the host's lake was open, and we sailed several races in the midsts of heavy snowfall.

In the vein of this map you've shared, we could see wind movement coming toward us in all its 3 dimensions of movement, oscillation and swirl. In my case for the first time ever. Tongues of airflow would push across or down through layers of different wind, you could see the boundary layer effects along the sides as a faster wind drew slower wind in along with it, and splashing against the water as downdrafts spashed outward.
